The Youth Orchestras of Fairfax are two ensembles comprised of talented school-aged musicians from the Greater Washington D.C. area.
The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Fairfax (YSO) is complete with strings and winds. The Concert Orchestra (CO) features intermediate level strings.
The mission of The Youth Orchestras of Fairfax (TYOF) is to provide young people with the opportunity to perform first-class orchestral and chamber music, develop their skills through quality instruction, increase their enjoyment of classical music, and contribute to the cultural life of Fairfax County.

Welcome to Peter Wilson
TYOF launches into a new era this year, its seventh season, with the appointment of Dr. Peter Wilson as the new Music Director and conductor of its flagship ensemble, the United Youth Symphony Orchestra. “We are thrilled with the selection. Peter will be a wonderful addition to our orchestra,” Board President Charles Fidler commented. “His enthusiasm and superb musicianship as a performer and conductor will help our young musicians grow and bring the orchestra to a new level of musical excellence.”
Dr. Wilson is charged with growing the orchestra and ensuring the artistic development of the musicians. The selection committee was particularly impressed with Dr. Wilson’s proven track record of orchestra building, strings development, and a unique ability to inspire orchestral students and audiences. In addition, Dr. Wilson’s commitment to local communities promises to serve TYOF very well in the future as it strives to enhance the artistic growth of Fairfax County and neighboring communities.
