TYOF’s New Music Director

TYOF launches into a new era this year, its seventh season, with the appointment of the new Youth Symphony Orchestra Conductor, Dr. Peter Wilson.  “We are thrilled with the selection.  Peter will be a wonderful addition to our orchestra,” says Board Director Charles Fidler. “His superb musicianship and enthusiasm for children’s participation in youth orchestras will bring the orchestra to a new level of musical excellence.”  Dr. Wilson is charged with growing the orchestra and ensuring the artistic development of the musicians.  The selection committee was particularly impressed by Dr. Wilson’s demonstrated personal commitment to his own community, which promises to further TYOF’s goal as it strives to serve Fairfax County.  The new conductor holds great promise for the future success of TYOF.

About Our New Conductor: Peter Wilson is an engaging and multifaceted American violinist and conductor whose musicianship has been noted as “first-class” by The Washington Post. He currently serves as Music Director of the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra and has conducted the National Symphony Orchestra as well as the National Gallery Orchestra. He is the founding member of Bridging the Gap. Highly respected throughout the Nation’s Capital, he has served as a violinist of The White House for nearly two decades and is an active chamber musician, concertmaster, recording artist, and performance clinician throughout the United States. He holds music degrees from Northwestern University and The Catholic University of America where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts. Dr. Wilson currently resides in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife Katie and sons Brad, Gregory and Tommy.
